AN APPEAL by Labour peer and former MSP, Mike Watson, against his 16-month jail sentence for fireraising has been set for 23 March, it was announced yesterday.

Under early release provisions, Watson, 56, could expect to serve half of the term imposed on him at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last September.

If successful, his release date would be in May.
