Tories name Falkirk West candidate

From BBC Scotland News, 1 st December 2000

The Scottish Conservatives have named their candidate for the Falkirk West by-election.

Craig Stevenson, a lecturer in plumbing services at Cardonald College in Glasgow, will fight the seat vacated by Dennis Canavan.

The 37-year-old who is married with two children, stood for the East Kilbride seat in last year's Scottish Parliament election without success.

The by-election has been caused by Mr Canavan's decision to withdraw his application to rejoin the Labour Party.

Labour, the Liberal Democrats, the Scottish National Party and the Scottish Socialist Party have all previously announced their candidates.
