LibDem candidate pays Ewing tribute

Linda Gorn, the Liberal Democrat hopeful, launched her campaign in the Moray by-election yesterday by paying tribute to Margaret Ewinbg, the Nationalist MSP, who died last month.

Ms Gorn said Mrs Ewing was 'well-liked and respected' across the constituency and would be missed in Moray.

She was joined at the launch by Scottish party president Malcolm Bruce,LibDem MP Danny Alexander and Tavish Scott, the LibDem Shetland MSP and transport minister>

Turning to the contest ahead, the councillor, who represents the town of Keith, said she would be focussing on local concerns, just as her party did during its victorius Westminster by-election campaign in Dunfermline and that she was 'relishing' the challenge.

'I am determined to fight for local people in Moray,' she said. That's why my campaign will focus on the local issues that matter to them - local schools, more publioc local health services, better transport.'

She added: 'The Liberal Democrats are on the way in Moray. The by-election comes hot on the heals of our victory in Dunfermline and West Fife last month.

'Right across Scotland people are turning to the Liberal Democrats realising that only we will stand up for local communites Now we're fighting Moray to win.'

The SNP is defending a 5312 majority at the by-election which will be held on Thursday April 27.
