Candidates and Constituency Assessments

saltire shield'The Conservative Party is a lost cause. Its leader is not popular, its policies have all been aped by New Labour, and its personalities are still mired in sleaze'.
From the website of Nigel Hastilow, former editor of the Birmingham Post, and Conservative candidate for Birmingham Edgbaston, January 2001.

I am the Scottish Conservative Westminster candidate for Gordon and at the age of 21 I am the youngest candidate in the UK.
As a young candidate I beleive I have the freshness, enthusiasm and compassion to serve and defend the interests of Gordon residents at Westminster well. I will be a strong voice for those Gordon residents who have long been forgotten about.
This will not be the first time I have stood for election. In 2007 , for experience, I stood for election to the Scottish Parliament in Coatbridge and Chryston and was again the youngest Conservative Parliamentary candidate. In a Labour stronghold seat I managed to increase the Conservative share of the vote.
I have been active in the Gordon Conservative Association since 2004. I have actively campaigned for our local MSP Nanette Milne. I am also involved in the University of Aberdeen Conservative Association, holding the post of Vice-Chairman from 2005-2008.
I have lived in Gordon all my life. Firstly living in Belhelvie and then moving to Whitecairns. I attended Balmedie primary School, Bridge of Don Academy and I am currently in my final year at the University of Aberdeen reading Politics and International Relations.
I have worked throughout my time at university working for Ottakar's bookstore, then ASDA and currently Starbucks.
I enjoy watching DVDs, going to the cinema, listening to music, going out with friends, going on walks and reading.
