Lycos Review

saltire shield' At present Scotland is integrated into the constitution of the UK by the Treaty of Union, signed in 1707. Before this, England and Scotland had their own parliaments. The Treaty created one for both countries and the two separate Parliaments went into adjournment. The Treaty stated that the Scottish Parliament could be recalled to deal exclusively with Scottish affairs. Two hundred and ninety years later, this has not yet happened.'

Iain G. Old likes politics. Scratch that -- what we should say is that Scottish politics are a bit of an obession with Dr. Old, who maintains a gargantuan resource site. Sure, we like the fact that the results from 1995 local elections are listed. But a chart of Scottish voting in English parliamentary races since 1929? Or Byelection results from 1966? Choices are endless: you can check to see what party has historically won in, say, the Western Isles (that would be Labour) or get the e-mail address for Scottish MPs serving today. Just so you won't get bugged out on data, Dr. Old offers several articles and essays (like "The Great Debate and the Lorraine Mann Question" -- discuss). It's all pretty overwhelming, but a great education for the unaware and a great resource for those more like Dr. Old.Lycos

But a chart of Scottish voting in English parliamentary races since 1929? Or byelection results from 1966? The choices are endless: you can check the status of a Scottish Assembly or the fallout from the 1997 national elections. Perhaps a color-coded map with election results since 1974 is more your style. It's all here. It may seem overwhelming, but this is a great education for the unaware and a great resource for those more like Dr. Old.Lycos
