'The SNP packed 1200 into Perth's new concert hall earlier this year; Labour mustered about 500 souls for Tony Blair's Scottish farewell in Oban's modest Corran Halls. It looked and felt uncannily like a village fete. You kept expecting the Prime Minister to break off to judge the jams before spinning the tombola. It'll be a shed next.'
