| Abdul is Ethnic Minorities Officer on the Executive of CPA Scotland and helped introduce Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs and Jews into the party. A Board member of the Govan Community Council and founder member of the Central Govan Tenants Association, Abdul was Vice-Chairman of the Multi-Faith Coalition formed by Brian Souter to oppose the repeal of Section 28. In 2003 Abdul stood as an Independent for Holyrood. With local community support, the focus of his campaign was to save the Pearce Institute - an important community centre - targeted for demolition by Labour and the Glasgow City Council. Although courted by leaders of the SNP and SSP, Abdul says he joined CPA Scotland for reasons of conscience. He told Scotland on Sunday "A lot of Muslims have asked me why I am standing. My answer is simple: the CPA is the only political party that is based on values, rather than ideology." For 25 years he has run a shop in the Govan Shopping Centre, which he opened with his brother. Abdul Dean's father is the head of the Muslim community in Scotland.

| John Kerr has dedicated his life to serving the community of east Glasgow, with over 50 years of committed voluntary work among the people of the area where he lives. A pioneer of the credit union movement in Glasgow and beyond, John and his wife Ellen established the Cranhill Credit Union in 1976; its situation in one of the most deprived parts of the city and its flourishing membership over 30 years later are testimony to their input. To support the growth of the movement and to combat poverty and exploitation of people by loan sharks charging high rates of interest, John helped found the Scottish League of Credit Unions. He is a former President. Other initiatives followed and John helped found the Cranhill Food Co-operative in 1980, which ensures cheap food gets from the market, with the savings going to members. He is also working to ensure that services are there to assist people whatever their problem, be it addiction, debt or family breakdown. John also helped establish the Cranhill Arts Project in 1980. Still going strong it provides an arts service including computing, multi-media, arts & crafts to people who are 8+ and live in Greater Easterhouse. John Kerr says he has challenged social engineering over many years. Working as an unpaid volunteer for most of his life in the Cranhill community, he says he has experienced first hand the incompetence and mal-administration of Glasgow's city fathers. He has decided that the best way to address these issues is to align himself with the CPA. John is standing as a candidate for Centre East Glasgow in the local elections, with the hope of serving the people and improving the quality of life for all residents of Glasgow.
