8. Dr Eileen Duke | ![]() |
| Scottish Green Party | ||
| A native of Dundee, I have lived in Glasgow for 28 years, and have worked as a GP in south Glasgow for 23 of them. I am married with two grown-up children. I was a Liberal Democrat activist for many years, but joined the Greens in 2005 as I had become disillusioned over the Lib Dem ambivalence on the environment.
The big issue for the planet today is global warming, and the government must start to take action instead of talking about it. We need a large number of Green MSP's to be able to influence the Executive to take sustainable development seriously, by developing a great public transport system, introducing congestion charges in cities, creating an excellent network of cycle lanes, putting serious funding into renewables, ensuring all buildings are energy-efficient and stopping the expansion of airports and motorways. Scotland should be an open inclusive country, I believe. Social justice is of prime importance. I have met many asylum-seekers in my work, a nd am ashamed of how badly they are treated in this country. I would like a strong but caring, self-sufficient Scotland which is welcoming to asylum-seekers, bans "rendition" flights, and gets rid of Trident. Recent electoral experience | ||
