Duncan Thorp was born on 26 September 1977. He graduated from Napier University in Edinburgh in 2001 with a BA (Hons) in Journalism and then went to work for the Royal Bank of Scotland, followed by employment with a news agency to work as a journalist before joining the Scottish Parliament. He lives in Tollcross in Edinburgh city centre. He worked in the Scottish Parliament for over four years, firstly as a media officer for a the Lib Dem MSP group and most recently as a parliamentary aide to two Lib Dem MSPs. He is now dedicating his time to fighting the election campaign for 2007 as an independent candidate. In his spare time he has interests in news, current affairs, food nutrition and various sports. He also has an interest in Scottish, UK and European cinema and enjoys a wide variety of music. Duncan likes travelling and has been to China, many European countries and North America. He is a member of various human rights and environmental organisations as well as the Junior Chamber International Edinburgh. He is also standing for the City of Edinburgh Council in the new Meadows and Morningside ward.
