| Colin Fox was born on the 17 th June 1959 in Edinburgh and educated at Our Lady's School in Motherwell and Bell College in Hamilton where he graduated with an SHDN in Accounting. Since 1983 he has been a political adviser for various political organisations. Formerly a Labour Party Young Socialist, he went on to become a founder member of the SSP the East of Scotland Convenor for the party. Colin Fox was elected as seventh list MSP for the Lothians at the 2003 election. In November 2004 Tommy Sheridan resigned as SSP leader and leadership of the party was initially shared by all the party's MSPs. However, in December 2004, the SSP National Council voted by 42 votes to 41 that they should revert to a single leader. In February 2004 Colin Fox was elected SSP leader, winning 252 votes (62.07 %) compared to 154 (37.93 %) for Alan McCombes. He lives in the Inch, Edinburgh, with his partner and two children.
