saltire shield 'The Scottish Socialist Party has earned a total of £15,000 in public money since the last Holyrood election by placing overpriced adverts in its own in-house newspaper. Its MSPs have 'bought' space in the SSP-owned Scottish Socialist Voice to advertise their surgeries, and then claimed the funds back through their publicly funded Holyrood allowances.'

Lorna Bett is from Ballingry in Fife. Her dad and uncles were miners and trade unionists and it was through them, she says, that she became politicised. Upon her selection in June 2006, Ms Bett said: 'About five years ago I joined the Scottish Socialist Party, becoming a member of the Dunfermline branch. For the last three years I have worked for Colin Fox and Rosemary Byrne in the Parliament.ÊThree years ago, I was co-founder of the new Benarty Branch and at present I am the Branch Organiser. I am extremely proud of the branch. I am also a member of the Benarty Community Council. I am pro-independence and particularly interested in what is happening in Latin America. My hopes are for a fairer deal for working class people. And of course, for an independent Scotland.'
