| Passionate about the social teachings of the Church and the responsibilities of Christian citizenship, Tony is the Director of the Ogilvie Institute for Religious Education and Formation in Aberdeen, which promotes adult faith development. Tony has long been involved in education in one way or another, including being the first Chairman of the Board of Governors of Scotland's largest Further Education College, Aberdeen College. An ordained a deacon of the Catholic Church, Tony is married to Gail and they have three sons and a grandson. Born in the Netherlands, he grew up in what is now Zimbabwe where he edited a Christian newspaper until deported by Ian Smith in 1970. He has lived in Aberdeen ever since. Tony has a lifelong interest in the distributist ideas of Chesterton. At the time of the Warnock Committee, Tony Schmitz served on the Joint Bioethics Committee of the Catholic Bishops of Scotland, of England & Wales and of Ireland and has been a lifelong member of pro-life associations. With a long-established interest in matters European, he is a founder member of UCAPE (Union pour la Culture et l'Avenir Professional en Europe) and FECFE, a federation of formation centres for small and medium enterprises. | Born and bred on the farm in Aberdeenshire, educated at Inverurie Academy and Aberdeen University, Ron has life-long experience in agriculture at home and abroad, raising cattle for beef and farming bananas. Before joining the Christian Peoples Alliance, Ron was a member of the Scottish Nationalist Party. Although two of his brothers are Church of Scotland ministers, Ron is a member of the Episcopalian Church and in his youth was associated with the Salvation Army.
