5 th May 2011

Fourth elections to the devolved Scottish parliament. New constituency boundaries will be used for these elections. 129 MSPs will be elected, 73 from First past the post constituencies elections and 56 by the d'hondt additional member system - seven MSPs from each of the eight electoral regions.

May 2012

Fifth Local government elections. 1,222 councillors will be elected for the second time using the Single Transferable Vote (STV) form of PR in three and four member wards. The Scottish Local Government (Elections) Bill 2009, proposes to hold these elections a year later than planned. This follows the fiasco of May 2007 when voter confusion over theree different electoral systems and counting problems resulted in 85,664 votes were rejected in Scottish Parliament constituencies, 56,247 in Scottish Parliament regions and 45,700 votes being rejected in the Local elections.

June 2014

Eighth direct elections to the European parliament. Seven MEPs will be elected by the D'Hondt system of PR from national lists.

7 th May 2015

Fifth elections to the devolved Scottish parliament.

Next election to the Westminster Parliament according to the text of the Tory/Lib Dem coalition agreement under which both parties agree to establish five-year fixed-term parliaments.

May 2017

The sixth Local government elections are planned to be held two years later than planned according to the Scottish Local Government (Elections) Bill 2009.

May 2019

Sixth elections to the devolved Scottish parliament.

June 2019

Ninth direct elections to the European parliament. Seven MEPs will be elected by the D'Hondt system of PR from national lists.

May 2021

Seventh Local government elections are planned to be held, four years after the 2017 elections, according to the Scottish Local Government (Elections) Bill 2009. Further local government elections would be held every four years.
